In 2025 BSTDB further strengthened its partnership with AK Lease by providing a EUR 40 million loan for green lease financing. BSTDB funds will support ECO Lease, the sustainability-themed product of AKLease, dedicated to financing a wide range of environmentally conscious and sustainable projects. Target beneficiaries will be Turkish companies investing in renewable energy, waste management, energy efficiency, raw material and water efficiency, contributing directly to Türkiye’s green transition and aligning with the national commitments under the Paris Agreement.
The loan is consistent with the strategic objectives of BSTDB to support the development of the financial sector, strengthen institutional resilience and promote transition to sustainable economies of the Member Countries. It contributes to the implementation of the Climate Change Strategy of BSTDB and better aligns its financing to the shareholders’ own climate priorities. It represents an opportunity to expand BSTDB’s climate change financing to a wider pool of sub-borrowers, thus contributing more effectively towards decarbonising the economies of its shareholders.
AKLease is one of the top leasing companies in Türkiye with 12% market share. It is a subsidiary of Akbank, a premium systemically important bank having as largest shareholder Sabancı Holding, one of the leading multi-business conglomerates in Türkiye.
BSTDB has been partnering with AKLease since 2017, having provided previously EUR 50 million of SME funding which supported over 260 leasing transactions. The new sustainability-linked facility builds on the successful track record and sets a precedent for scaling climate-focused finance in Türkiye’s leasing market.
