Credins Bank MREL-Eligible Loan (Albania)

The first MREL-eligible loan in Albania was provided by BSTDB to Credins Bank in 2025. The EUR 10 million loan supports compliance with the regulatory requirements set by the Bank of Albania, contributing to the partner bank’s resilience and competitiveness on the market. 

 

The operation reflects the current demand of Albanian banks to attract financing aimed to maintain sufficient eligible instruments for an effective implementation of the resolution strategy. BSTDB, like other Multilateral Development Banks in the region, plays a crucial role in supporting local banks meet regulatory requirements for capital and loss-absorbing capacity and build resilience in a sustainable way, enabling emerging and transition economies to strengthen the stability of their banking systems. 

 

The operation meets the strategic priorities and mandate of BSTDB. Credins Bank committed to use the BSTDB funds for on-lending to the real economy by creating a portfolio of SME and green sub-loans. Through this commitment the intermediary role of the partner bank is fully employed to support the fulfilment of BSTDB mandate.
