BSTDB Participates in 10th Balkans Energy Summit in Athens
Discussions focus on financing energy security and infrastructure in Southeast Europe
The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) participated in the 10th Balkans Energy Summit held in Athens, Greece, bringing together government officials, energy regulators, international financial institutions, investors and infrastructure stakeholders to discuss key developments shaping Southeast Europe’s energy sector.
BSTDB was represented by Roman Matkiwsky, Director of Energy and Infrastructure, who took part in the panel discussion “Financing Energy Security & Infrastructure in Southeast Europe” alongside representatives from Actis, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FIPA), and the Port of Thessaloniki.
The discussion focused on investment opportunities and financing challenges across gas, power and renewable energy infrastructure, as well as key issues related to project bankability, risk allocation and regional energy connectivity.
Mr. Matkiwsky shared BSTDB’s perspective on financing gaps and structural challenges affecting energy projects across the Balkans, highlighting the importance of cross-border infrastructure and regional cooperation in strengthening energy security and market integration.
The Summit also addressed broader regional priorities, including grid modernisation, renewable energy deployment, infrastructure connectivity and the role of public and private capital in supporting Southeast Europe’s energy transition.
