BSTDB Is Provisionally Granted the Observer Status to the COP on Climate Change
News | 28-Jun-2017
BSTDB is pleased to announce that following its application for the
observer status to the United Nations Climate Change Conference, the Bank has
passed the review process and was granted provisional admittance to attend the
next Conference of the Parties (COP) taking place in Bonn on 6-17 November
2017. The final decision on admission of BSTDB as an observer Intergovernmental
Organization (IGO) is expected to be taken by the Parties during the
Conference.
The COP is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change and is represented by all the states
that are Parties to the Convention.
Provisional admittance of BSTDB to COP23 is an important step towards
closer cooperation with the United Nations and other international
organizations in tackling climate change. BSTDB believes it can play a more
active role in this respect and seeks to respond to the calls for the non-party
stakeholders, such as financial institutions, to support actions that reduce
emissions, build resilience, and decrease vulnerability to the adverse effects
of the changing climate.
