BSTDB Participates in the Delphi Economic Forum

News | 09-Apr-2022

Dmitry Pankin, President and Aristotelis Spiliotis, Secretary General of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) participated in the Delphi Economic Forum, held on 6-9 April 2022.  The event gathered international political and business leaders and academia to discuss critical issues of a world full of new realities.
Speaking at a panel on “Strategies for Financing Growth” of the thematic session on “Investments, growth and the future of financial services”, President Pankin spoke about the changing economic conditions and the role of multilateral development banks (MDBs). More specifically, he talked about how MDBs are likely to play a more important role in coming years, helping fill the growing gap in public investment as governments tighten post-Covid fiscal and monetary policies. MDBs are experienced at mobilizing financing affordably and quickly, and along with their ability to handle political risks, they are especially well placed to help foster private investment in developing economies in the face of rising uncertainties and market risk aversion. At the same time, however, they will face growing capital constraints and thus need to achieve greater impact by mobilizing more resources in new ways, and take on functions that facilitate financing, including advisory and arrangement activities.
