Dr. Serhat Köksal, President of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), participated in the International Donors' Conference to support the people in Türkiye and Syria, held in Brussels on 20 March  2023. The conference is organized by the European Commission and the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and aims to raise funds to support the urgent needs of the people affected by the ongoing crisis in the region.

During the conference, President Köksal expressed the BSTDB's solidarity with the people of Türkiye and Syria and reiterated the Bank's commitment to supporting the recovery and development of the affected areas. He emphasized the importance of coordinated international action in addressing such massive natural disasters and consequent humanitarian crises, as well as the need for long-term solutions to promote sustainable development and economic growth in the region.

President Köksal informed the delegates and other donors that in addition to the donation granted immediately after the earthquake, the BSTDB is in close talks with well-established Turkish institutions to channel additional EUR 55 Million to the afflicted areas for the restoration of critical infrastructure and housing assistance needs.

"The BSTDB stands in solidarity with the people of Türkiye and Syria. We recognize the urgency to address the pressing needs of the affected population, and we are committed to supporting the humanitarian response in the region," said President Köksal. “This systematic international action sends a strong message of solidarity to the people affected by the massive earthquakes, demonstrating that they are not alone in their struggle and that the international community is committed to supporting them. Together, we can make a difference and build a brighter future for the region.”
