Black Sea Trade and Development Bank Secretary General Addresses Ninth Prodexpo North Summit

Press Release | 03-Mar-2026

Secretary General Highlights Bank’s Vision Behind New Sustainable Headquarters

The Secretary General of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), Asterios Tsoukalas, participated today in the 9th Prodexpo North Summit, where he presented the Bank’s vision behind its newly inaugurated sustainable headquarters.

The Secretary General underlined that the decision to invest in a sustainable and “future-proof” building constitutes a conscious strategic choice that fully reflects the Bank’s mission to support the development of the Black Sea region in a responsible, sustainable and socially inclusive manner.

Mr. Tsoukalas informed the audience that the new headquarters has been awarded LEED Platinum certification, the highest distinction under the internationally recognized green building rating system. It is the first building of its kind in Northern Greece and among the few in Greece to achieve this level of certification, marking a significant milestone for sustainable infrastructure in the region.

“Our new offices incorporate the principles of sustainability, energy efficiency, circularity and a low environmental footprint,” he noted, emphasizing that these values begin “at our own home.”
As an international financial institution, BSTDB aims to position itself at the forefront of sustainability, applying strict Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards. These principles are embedded throughout the project—from the design of a collaborative and employee-friendly working environment to the selection and implementation of advanced technical solutions that reduce energy consumption, promote circular use of materials and enhance the overall resilience of the building.

The Secretary General stressed that the relocation to the Bank’s new permanent premises marks the beginning of a new chapter of growth. “We are delighted to embark on this journey in an environment designed not only to meet today’s operational needs but also to anticipate the demands of the future,” he said.

The Bank’s investment in sustainable infrastructure reinforces its broader commitment to responsible finance and to fostering long-term, resilient development across the Black Sea region.
