Energean Oil and Gas S.A., Greece

The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) is considering providing support to Energean Oil and Gas S.A. for further exploitation of Prinos offshore oil reserves in the Gulf of Kavala, Greece.

Offshore oil and gas explorations and exploitations may potentially generate significant adverse environmental and social (E&S) risks and impacts, which may be diverse, irreversible, unprecedented, or can propagate over large areas. According to the BSTDB’s E&S screening and compliance requirements the Operation has been assigned Category A and requires a formal Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process. In this respect Energean Oil and Gas S.A. has developed a comprehensive ESIA study, a Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP), and an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) for the development of Prinos offshore oil reserves, which are compliant with the Greek national requirements, and EBRD’s Performance Requirements.

In line with BSTDB’s Environmental and Social Policy and Public Information Policy the relevant E&S information of the operation is publicly disclosed on the Bank’s website minimum 30 calendar days before the Board of Directors meeting, where the operation may be considered for approval. Thus, any stakeholders directly or indirectly affected by the development of Prinos offshore oil field, or have an interest in the development can review such information, make enquiries and provide comments.
