Efeler Geothermal Power Plant Extension, Türkiye

BSTDB is considering providing support to Gürmat Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. for the extension of the Efeler Geothermal Power Plant (GPP) located in Aydin-Germencik province of Türkiye. The project consists of construction of 3 additional units that will increase the existing operating capacities of Efeler GPP by 97.6 MWe, totaling at 259.9 MWe. Due to the size, location and the potential cumulative environmental and social (E&S) impacts the extension project is screened Category A.

As per the requirements of BSTDB’s Environmental and Social Policy and Public Information Policy category A operations require an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), meaningful public consultation, and public disclosure on the Bank’s webpage of any relevant E&S information. For a private sector operation such information is disclosed minimum 30 calendar days before it may be submitted to the Board of Directors for consideration. Thus, any stakeholders directly or indirectly affected by the Efeler GPP extension, or have an interest in it, can review such information, make enquiries, and provide comments.

The following E&S information is available for public review and comment:

• Non-Technical Summary (NTS) in English and Turkish;
• Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) in English and Turkish;
• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Addendum in English and Turkish; 
• Stakeholder Engagement Plant (SEP) in English and Turkish.
