EFELER Geothermal Power Plant, Türkiye

Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) is considering providing a long-term debt facility to Gürmat Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (The Client) for the purpose of financing costs and expenses related to the construction and operation of the greenfield geothermal power plant EFELER (The Project). The Project will be of 123.3 MW installed capacity and will consist of three Binary and one Dual Flash units, including the associated wells, pipelines and transmission lines, located in the Aydın-Germencik province in Türkiye. The total cost of the power plant  is around USD 970 million, of which BSTDB's participation would be USD 65 million.

According to the Bank’s Environmental and Social Policy, construction and operation of a 123.3 MW greenfield geothermal power plant and the associated facilities have been screened as Category A due to potential significant risks and environmental and social impacts they may generate. Therefore, a full Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and comprehensive public consultation and participation are necessary to be carried out before the Bank can make an informed decision regarding the financing of the Project. The outcomes of the assessment and consultation need to be publicly disclosed at least 30 calendar days before approval by the Board of Directors.
